Ruby is among the oldest gems known to man, dating back many thousands of years. In ancient times, ruby was held in very high regard. The ancient Sanskrit name for ruby translates basically as king of precious stones.

Another unusual garnet is the purple-pink rhodolite garnet gemstones which are a mix of the garnet varieties pyrope and almandine. Another very rare and very beautiful garnet is the wonderful Merelani mint green garnet gemstones. In deeper green hues this green grossular garnet is known also known as tsavorite garnet gemstones.
