Natural Opal Gemstone Necklaces Price

The price of handcrafted necklaces set with natural precious opal gems and beads can range significantly depending on the body color of the opal, the amount and hue of the play of colors present, on the opal's transparency, and on the current value of the precious metal used (14k gold, sterling silver, etc...). Necklaces set with natural precious opal gems showing very little play of colors have relatively low values. The price can increase dramatically for necklaces set with natural precious opal gemstones & beads showing strong plays of color. We grade our precious opals from the lowest quality to the highest quality based on the transparency and the amount & intensity of the play of colors present as follows: commercial quality - good quality - fine quality - very fine quality - extra fine quality. Natural opaque precious opal gemstones with black body color and strong play of color (known as black opal) command the highest opal values. The value per carat of natural precious opal gemstones does increase slightly as the weight increases. The quality of a natural precious opal gemstone's polish is also important.

Ethiopian Opal

We specialize in 100% natural untreated real opal that was mined in Ethiopia!

The precious opal deposit near Delanta in the Welo Province of Ethiopia is producing very stable jewelry grade precious crystal opal with amazing bright plays of green, red, blue, yellow and orange colors in beautiful patterns. This Ethiopian opal is completely natural and has proven to be just as hard and stable as fine Australian opal and Brazilian opal!
The body color of this natural Ethiopian opal ranges from golden-brown to white to colorless to blue, and the transparency varies from translucent to crystal clear. Some of these natural Ethiopian opals tend to absorb water and change their transparency and colors if placed in water, and then these precious crystal opals recover their original play of color and transparency after being removed from the water and drying out. This type of natural opal is known as hydrophane opal.
