This natural mineral specimen has biotite-sillimanite matrix with a large reddish-purple almandine garnet (also known as almandite garnet) measuring 1.3 inches across. There is also another large garnet exposed on the opposite side. The biotite is black and very brilliant, with brown blade-like chatoyant sillimanites here and there within the biotite.
