This natural sillimanite specimen has a thin flat shape. It was discovered within ancient river gravels in Minas Gerias, Brazil. Its surfaces were worn smooth from the natural action of the ancient river, and there are several areas on its surface with faint silky chatoyancy as the specimen is turned. This completely natural cat's eye sillimanite piece makes a very nice specimen just as it is, or it could also be used as lapidary rough.

This natural sillimanite specimen was discovered within ancient river gravels in Minas Gerias, Brazil. Its surfaces were worn smooth by the natural action of the ancient river, and due to silimanite's excessive hardness, the surface of this fine quality specimen actually achieved a completely natural semi-polished finish from the ancient river's abrasive action. There are several areas on its surface with very beautiful chatoyancy that changes colors from light to dark as the specimen is turned. This completely natural cat's eye sillimanite piece makes a very nice specimen just as it is, although it could also be used as lapidary rough for chatoyant cabochons or for a wonderful carving.

This large size decorator mineral specimen has a matrix composed of black biotite mica intergrown with long blade-like chatoyant sillimanite. There are several large reddish-purple almandine garnets (also known as almandite) exposed on its surfaces, each garnet measures from 2 inches to 3 inches across! The garnets are fractured and they are translucent to semi-transparent. There is about 30% chatoyant sillimanite intergrown with the biotite mica matrix, and there also is a small amount of blue iolite as well.
