It has a high crown and very rich, deep green color. When examined closely, this extremely rare gem does contain "horsetail" inclusions which guarantee its natural origin and add to its value as a true demantoid garnet gem from the Ural Mountains of Russia. Demantoid garnet is considered a class II gemstone in G I A nomenclature. Class II gemstones grow with moderate inclusions expected, possibly visible to the unaided eye. In addition to the desirable “horse tail” inclusion which is visible on the underside of this gemstone, this gem also contains some very small hollow, straw-like needles, some of which may be seen with very careful scrutiny by the unaided eye.
